This Winter started out really warm.I have always tapped before between Christmas and New Years but waited for colder weather to come.I tapped in mid-January and gathered about 100 gallons of sap before it got warm again.Yesterday it got up to 70% F and the sap stopped flowing. Were supposed to have about six days of freezing temperatures starting tomorrow. This may not be a good syrup season. I have noticed that over the five years I have been tapping that the smaller trees produce more sap than the bigger trees.Perhaps the smaller trees freeze better and then produce more sap flow when it warms up. My biggest trees so far this year have produced little or no sap at all. Skidiver ( 60 sugar maples with 72 taps on 25 acres )
