My setup is new to me and I have put some sap threw it but still haven't drew syrup. When should I expect to do so. It is close around 216-217 degrees. Any info would help.

It varies alot depending on how deep you run your pans & sugar content. Last year on my rig Ithe took about 300 gallons. I run my flue pan at 1/2 in inch and my syrup pan around 1 to 1 -1/4 inches. My sap is usually about 2.3 to 2.5 % sometimes better.

That makes me feel better. I run the flue pan about 1 inch and the syrup pan 2 inches. I have 300 plus through it.

What is your sugar content? With that much sap it might be 1%? You must be minutes away from syrup! Are you checking with hydrometer? is is floating? Is your thermometer in tents and is calibrated?

Chris

Don't know the sugar content. I check it with hydrometer and its not there yet. I know I am minutes away from it but like you said... it could just be low sugar content.

The first draw always takes what seems like forever. Does'nt matter what pan set up you have. Its called "sweetening the pans". From here on out you will have syrup quicker because there will always be syrup close to draw off density.

I agree with everyone above. Sounds like if you could have boiled for just a short time more you would have had your first draw. Have your draw off pail at the ready for the next boil!

Good luck!
