Well looking at the long range forecast on Thursday of last week I made the midnight decision to start tapping on Friday. I spent the last 3 days tapping, got my main orchard tapped out, vacuum running and up to 23". Left the vacuum running last night. I went and checked this morning and had 4-500 gallons, checked before lunch and had another 3-400 gallons. Now its a scramble to get my RO flushed before I have to collect! It would be pretty bad to have your first run of the year and have it run over the sides cause your not ready :o. Glad I made the gamble and hope it works out for me. Hope to have a few days of this early season, then its gotta go back to winter for a month, I need to go logging.

Good for you!
We were on the same page, as I tapped Fri,Sun, and just finished today. Nice to have all my vacuum taps in. I've got 330 this year. Sap is running, and a freeze up tonight. Wednesday could be a big day.

Yesterday got as warm as 50 for the 1st of Feb. Pretty strange if you ask me, but so is making syrup on the 1st of Feb. Checked my tank in the morning and found 400 gallons from an over night run. I started scrambling to get things ready. Finally was able to get to the orchard at 4pm to collect, the tank was 2" from the top. Pretty sure if we didn't have strong winds that made it feel like 35 I would have lost a lot of sap to an overflowing tank. I collected 725, started the RO and away we went! I didn't have time to go back to get the rest of the sap in the tank, but we started the evaporator anyways. We boiled till 8 and made a gallon and a half of amber rich, a beautiful looking syrup. Hoping for less wind and more sun today for a good run!

Had a great day yesterday. Mostly sunny in the low 40's with little to no wind. At one point I was averaging 100 gallons per hour off 1000 taps. Collected 1250 gallons at 1.9%. Finished the night at 23.5 gallons for the day. Still shaking my head about how early it is. Should be out in the woods logging, not checking vacuum. They say take what she gives ya, and thats what were doing.
