Extending mainline with smaller diameter ?

As I am planning my new 3/4" mainline at 500 ft, I hope its long enough.

But if not and I want another 100 ft can I add 1/2" mainline to the end ? I have the 1/2" on hand and don't want to buy another roll of 3/4.

Is there anything wrong with doing that ? Is there something I am overlooking?

I believe 3/4 main line is rated for 250 taps, so as long as your addition still keeps that number of taps in check you should be fine. The issue is when overloading a mainline and then you are trying to squeeze too much sap into the smaller mainline................assuming this is gravity feed??

Do you have saddles that fit the 1/2in line? I see nothing wrong with it if your total flow fits the 3/4. This with vac or without? Without vac you can fit more taps on the lines beacuse you dont need airspace to transfer the vac.

I will be using my Shurflo pump on this line.
At times I do not have the Shurflow running and then it is only on gravity.

At best I hope to be able to achieve 120 taps total.

I do have saddles that fit the 1/2" line, found them online just this week. Saddle type is hose clamp type with a gasket, fits 1/2' AND 3/4" mainline.

Maybe that should be a new post for others that need 1/2" saddles.

Cant wait to set this all up.

You would be fine doing that. As already said as long as you are not overloading it no problem. If you use it to extend a 100 feet or so and pick up 20 or 30 taps your vacuum would still transfer to thr 5/16 as long as you had good slope

You will like those saddles made on a hose clamp. They are all I use since first trying them.
