Gast pump?? Need help..

There is a used pump available.. It is a gast 2565 v3c model
Could this be used for a decent vacuum pump? Does it matter what it was previously used for?
Asking $400 cdn.. Is that good?

It doesn't matter what it was used for previously. In my opinion that's not a terrible price, but I have seen better deals. I wouldn't put more than 500 taps on it the vacuum curve drops off pretty fast with it. But of course if you have a tight system then that will help.

Go on gast web site and you can look at the specifications of that model and see how many cfms it has. Especially at the desired vacuum level you plan on running at

Thanks guys... He just told me pump is 575 volts 3 phase, 60 cycle, can I still run this off a generator?? Motor is 1.5 hp... Seems big to me??

A 1.5 is what the pump is rates with. You can replace the motor with any that will work. Gome guys use gas... mine is single phase 110v. You just need to make sure you dont over speed it.

Ok.. So I could just change out motors ... Can I put a small Honda engine on this model , that might be the way to go... I see them for sale quite often.. I guess it would be just a matter of putting pulleys on and making sure it ran at the proper rpm's. Thanks again guys!! This site is so helpful ... Tom of great knowledge out there!

A lot of gast pumps are made to be direct drive using a Lovejoy coupler to connect the shafts as long as the motor is the right rpm so there would be no need to use pulleys unless you need to alter the speed because the engine is too fast or too slow.

How do I know if I am buying the right size Honda motor for that pump.. Should I look for a particular model?

That pump will run on a 3 hp or even less gas engine. I ran one with a predator 2hp. and reduced the pulley size on the pump so I could slow down the motor. I think that's a 1750 rpm pump so theoretically you would use half the size pulley on the engine as what's on the pump but as I said, I tweaked it a little to save gas. You can get rpm testers on ebay pretty cheap. Check the rpms on the gast site to be sure though. It's been a while.

I used a Gast 2567 last year with good success on about 350 taps. Stayed at 25-26 all season. Make sure you put a check valve on the vacuum intake side of the pump. This prevents the pump from spinning backwards when the power is shut of, since this can ruin your pump vanes.

Ok... I will do that. Going to put a smaller motor on it and use a small Honda generator to run it.. Will that work ok or should I be putting a gas engine on it?

I am not sure how small you could go on the electric motor. It should have a 1.5 hp at 1800 rpm.
