The 10 day forecast looked too good to pass up. So I went out this morning to one of the new properties that I will be tapping this season and put 60 in. The trees were pouring out sap as soon as I pulled the drill bit out of the tree. By the time I finished tapping all of them one tree had over a gallon of sap already. Looks like I will be doing my first boil of 2016 on Friday 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Put in another 40 this morning and that brings me up to 100, easily have over 50 gallons from yesterdays little run already. Saturday morning hoping for 100 gallons and to do my 1st boil of the season!

Lol ice fishing season sucks on the big lakes so I needed something to do :-) over 100 gallons now so if I make 2-3 gallons over the next few days it's well worth it

So this will be your first sap in the new sugar house and on the new evaporator - you must be pretty psyched up for it! I remember that day fondly.

I think we'll get a complete thaw next week, so I don't think you're too early. I've been racing around cleaning tanks and checking tube... I'm drilling in tomorrow.

I expect we'll freeze tight after next week for a while, so I'll probably drain the evaporator after next week's boiling (boil down syrup pan sap on propane and put the back pan sap back outside in the tank to freeze).

Thanks for your service and have fun tomorrow!

Wondering what you have for a sugar content? very curious if its 1% or the regular 2%

I'll post my sap collection totals and syrup results once I'm done on Sunday and figure out the percentage

Had a good 1st day, no real issues. A bit tougher to load the sap into the IBC container than I expected. Probably spilled 5 gallons trying to aim it into the hole in the top. Boiling went well, new rig boils at just over 18 gallons per hour. Got about 4 gallons of concentrate I'll finish up tomorrow. Can probably already get another 50 gallons of sap and may grab that early and finish up all I have and bottle it up. Rest of the week looks great too!!

That's awesome. Wish it would start flowing like that over in the Keene area. Maybe this upcoming week... Well done!

I made a little dumping basin out of a 5 gallon bucket that pumps up into the tank. Used it for the first time today and it works well.
