The Zuckerhutte is near completion! With the guidance of a new found Amish friend who helped design and rough sawed all of the lumber. The steel is ordered and will be installed along with chimney and steam stack in the coming weeks. The front door will be complete in February which is being hand built by my Amish friend. Thought I would share our progress.

In this case I guess it's more appropriate to say "Ich liebe deine Zuckerhütte. Gut gemacht!" ;) Be sure to post more pictures as the build continues!

Nice looking. I don't speak German (or whatever that is) so I'll just say you are doing a fine job.

The work is finally done! Only a few things to do on the inside like shelves and countertops. Bit the bullet and ran power to the Zuckerhutte and had the electrician install conduit and outlets.

The sealer and stain we used is Q8 Log Oil in Barn Gray. Recommended by our Amish friend who supplied the lumber. 2 coat application in the first 24 months and then maintenance coat every 5-7 years. Applied with pump weed sprayer.

That is a GREAT looking sugarhouse!!! Very nice work. I like all the cement work around the outside. It sure is nice to have as the snow melts to keep the mud out of the sugarhouse. My wife and I have poured over 300 cubic yards of cement at our place so we don't have to drive through any dirt or across any lawn to get to all our buildings and it sure is nice for cleaning snow and when it gets muddy in the spring. The only problem is that we get asked when we are going to pour the cement on the trail going to the sugarbush. Again, very nice job on everything you have done.

Beautiful sugar shack and woodwork. Love the rough cut lumber.

Where did you get the Stainless steel tank head tank that is mounted on the outside of the shack?

I've been looking for the exact same unit.

Gary we get the same teasing about covering everything in concrete. We have poured 140cyd since buying the property.

Mark, I got lucky on craigslist. It was part of an estate sale. I had to drive about 2 hours and got it for $275

Gary:

Sweet.

How many gallons does it hold?

Did it come from a dairy farm?

Thats A Really nice Sugar house you built.Last time I was at Goodrichs in Cabot VT he had a decent amount of those small dairy tanks. 100 to 200 Gallons. Some of them were steel outside & stainless on the inside. Pretty sure there was a few that were all stainless. Might be worth a phone call if you are really looking for one. It is a long way from Connecticut. But who doesn't like a ride through VT now and then.
