I have a chance to get blue 55 gallon barrels super cheap. They help RV antifreeze. I would like people experience and opinions on using them for sap storage.

Would a super hot steam cleaning and rinsing be enough to clean them?

If not, is there a good liner to use?

i would look elsewhere.... my rule of thumb if you won`t eat it.... don`t use them

Nor would I. While RV antifreeze says non toxic, it is not edible nor can you ever be 100% positive you have gotten it all cleaned out.

Definitely no. Especially in plastic.

Remember you are concentrating your sap (and contaminants) 40x.
Not worth it. New clean food safe tanks are cheap enough and will last decades.

If it's your only option...maybe these would help?
