Anyone with more experience have an opinion about this warm weather? I usually don't tap until 17Feb or later, but the dang weather has me second guessing myself... This coming week looks really ripe for a run, but January? Honestly?

Winter isn't over. Just hasn't arrived yet.

Hung a bucket yesterday to test and got nada today despite temps in 40s. Hopefully my elevation is helping delay the flow despite unusually warm conditions.

I have 11 Taps so far and boiled down to 650 ml of syrup this weekend!

I am trying to hold off till Presidents Day weekend. Not sure if that's the smart thing to do. I have a feeling it's going to be a very short season here.

Can't hold out with the coming very warm snap. Had 3 liters from one test tap yesterday (!!) so gonna tap this weekend. weird season, at least south of Albany it is. Will post how it goes.

Southern Columbia County here-- tapped out existing lines last Sunday and will be finishing our first gallon of syrup today. 10 day forecast looks perfect except for 2 nights where the lows are predicted to be above freezing, but the ground is still frozen in the woods so who knows. We've collected more each day than we collected in some entire weeks last year. Heading out now to install more lines--making up for the absolutely awful 2015 season!

Ghent? I am right around the corner in Spencertown NY. 2nd yr, have about 1300 trees on vacuum and tubing. New taps are on the droplines but have not tapped the trees yet. Thinking maybe week of 2/14 or 2/21. Although long range accuweather shows it getting really cold end of Feb. Last yr tapped last day of Feb and that might end up being right this yr as well.

we're in Craryville, running on 5/16 gravity lines. Just finished 9 pints from 44 gallons of sap.

Sorry I was slow getting back on my own thread. Turns out tapping early was a good call; solid runs on and off for the last 3 weeks just south of Newburgh, NY. 5 finished gallons from about 40 taps already and lots of sap in the woods as of this evening for the weekend boil. Shaping up to be a decent season if the buds don't pop too soon...

Another more than decent run this weekend. Turning out to be a good season; 8+ gallons so far from ~40 taps. Great flavor this year. Also got a nice mention in the March issue of Valley Table mag if anyone wants to take a look at my ugly near-hat in some photos from last season. Still, we appreciate the coverage, small-scale though we are.

Still, buds starting to show on many trees, so maybe only a weekend or two left (we'll see).

Pulling out taps, cleaning and storing tomorrow. Seems like last year we were just getting going this time of March...
