Anyone have any suggestions of where to look for new tanks for holding and collecting sap? Cheap is best!

My trees are on buckets about 15 min from my house, so I need a few different tanks to transport sap.

Fleman,
Many of us use the 275 gallon cage tanks. They are tough, light, cheap? ($50-60) and usually come with a valve and the male half of a cam lock quick coupler. Rather difficult to clean, but I replaced the handle on a bulk tank brush with 4 feet of 1 inch SS pipe. You can reach almost every corner with it now.
Any tank you use to transport should have a closed top, to contain splashing.

Here is a Link to Chem-Tainer. "Inventory Clearance" Poly tanks in Illinois ( and other states ). Most have defects a person can live with and are very usable. Pick them up at Factory and eliminate shipping! http://www.chemtainer.com/home/clearance2.aspx?fob=IL ( Illinois )

You may want to check to see if these are NSF rated. Who knows what they're made out of?

I used cage tanks for years for on farm molasses storage.

Store them out of the sun, for a longer life span. Check them every preseason with a load of water. When they fail they give no warning. Lost a 325 leg tank on the truck this summer, nearly full of water for the cows and a loud pop, like a rifle and she split from top to bottom on the far side.

Clist has many in our area. Poly tanks will last longer but more up front expense.

Good Luck!

I have a cage tank as well. best bang for the buck but yeah, harder to clean. I have my eye on a round bottom SS tank in the next few years!

Fleman 202 I looked at your profile to see just where you were, but couldn't see, as I wanted to help with a link.

Anyway, go to Craigslist and search "Totes" or Tanks.

There's plenty of these out there. WATCH FOR WHAT WAS IN THEM. The obvious stuff like soaps and oils, and cleaners is easy. I had a friend of mine got one that had "Lactic Acid" in it. They washed/power washed then filled it. The apparent residual acid turned ALL the sap milky white. We were lucky and found some that were used to hold the waterproofing for paper plates in it. They also use them for food flavors,............ Good luck
