Last year I made a float box for my Smokey Lake evaporator using a small restaurant pan and float valve from eBay. I couldn't really figure out a good coupling between the box and the 3/4 FIP fitting on the evaporator. I ended up using a 3/4 male to male coupling with locking nuts to fasten to the float box but had trouble keeping the joint from leaking. What does Jim use for the coupling on his float boxes? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
The nuts would prevent the threads from tightening enough to seal.

Thanks for the suggestions. How do you make a watertight connection to the float box itself? There is something called a bulkhead fitting that looks like it might work ?

Bulkhead fittings will work. You can find them easily online or a brewers store.

If you are just talking about where the incoming sap line attaches, it should not need to be leak proof because it is several inches above the level in the pan. Neither of mine are tight. If you are talking about where the float seals against the incoming sap, that must be able to seal.
