Hi,
I am back with another dumb question...
Can I get away with 1 inch of ceramic blanket and split fire bricks or do I need more than that?

You could get by with as little as none.

1" insulation will work. I only used bricks in the firebox where wood would damage the insulation. On sides and ramp. Sides do not go to top as wood does not get that high. Arch I am building now will get 2" blanket.
