View Full Version : Why Log Out?

I have wanted to ask this for a while but never get around to it. Does most everyone that logs in when they get on the trader log out when they leave? What is the value of seeing that "all cookies are cleared"? This doesn't seem like the start of an exciting thread but I have wondered about it before.

I never log out, because if I did I'm not sure how to log back in. And initially I thought your post concerned logging in the woods, which probably tells you something.

All I have to do is try and post more than a few sentences on here and I get kicked out! Then I log back on to find out how much I have to retype.

Log out and clearing cookies are usefull if you are using publically shared computers ( libraries) . If your private computer...no need unless your kids/family members like to prank you.

I was going to put this in the "Site Rules and News" since it was more of a "site basics" question. I didn't even think of the title being a little misleading. I found out I didn't have the credentials to post there though. So far nobody has said they log out regularly or at all...interesting.

I'm with Madmapler. Any reply to a posting that is more than a few sentences long and I can not post it. Sometime during the typing, I get kicked off and when I go to "post reply" it says I have to Log In. Whats going on with that?

I always log out and turn my computer off. For logging in I have my computer set to remember my login password. As far as those who get cut off when typing long responses, I don't have that issue. I wonder if that is your internet connection or something in your computer. Are you on broadband, DSL or dial up? I suspect an issue there.
I never get cut off, check my entries, most get very long, and I type slow.

I do not log out either and for a while when I retuned to the site I would be automatically be login. Then one day I wasn't log in any more and have to do so.
and from then on whenever I come to trader and want to post I have to log in(I'm looking as a guess at this point) even though I never logged out??
Also when I do login whatever thread I'm looking at becomes inverted, so if I'm on page two I have to login then go back to page one and scroll all the way down to the bottom to find the last post on the thread ?? Does that happen to anyone else and is there something I can do to correct it??

.
We had dsl up to a year ago and then we got broadband. Doesn't seem to be any different.

I have had that in the past, but not recently. It seamed like I would have that happen when, like Maple Flats, I would type a long post. I too don't type that fast. When I would finally hit the post reply button I would find out I had to log in again - and my work was gone. Fortunately, I haven't had that for a long time. I started a thread asking about that issue once upon a time. As far as opening up the site and already being logged in - I have had that happen once on the Trader. It is nice to not have to log in but maybe there is some benefit to actually logging in and out. If there is no one has said it here yet.

If a spend a little too much time typing a post, I get the "not logged in message" and everything I have typed is gone. Happened last week. Tried to share more of my "early/fall tapping" results. A few sentences, maybe 10-12 minutes or so. VERY frustrating and I gave up. Same experience with order of the posts. If I don't log in, the very first post of the thread is at the top of page one. Just the opposite when I do log in - which I only do if I want to view an image someone has posted or want to post or reply.

Whenever you clear cookies and sometimes when you clear history, the computer forgets who you are. When you log back in, look for a little box to check that says "Remember Me"

I never clear cookies or history, so that can't be the cause.

OK, pdr, have you ever checked a box that said "remember me" or have you ever seen that box?

One thing I've done when typing a long post is to post a few sentences then using the edit option, I keep on typing and posting. At least I don't lose what I've typed.
