So I'm looking at a sugar bush that has not been tapped in at least two years and is about eight years old. It still has tubing in the air (mostly). The 5/16 is junk!! When looking at this as a lease what would be a starting point for the main lines value per tap? Or how should I handle the negotiations?

I think it is one of those situations where you'll realize nothing is free even if the land owner doesn't know it. I personally wouldn't pay much more (if any) than the going rate. A lot of work goes into fixing, mending, and splicing, which is why a lot of producers would rather completely replace the tubing. Yea if there is mainline there that is run correctly and usable it has some value, but then again they haven't invested the labor to remove it either.

Scott,
$0.00, it is there for a reason, the cost to clean out what is in it, that is if you can, will be worth more than its value. Our bush sat from 2010-2012 and I have to retube it all. The one main, I thought I could use ended imploding under the vac in one section. It was easier to drop it and run new.

If you have suspension wire in place that is the value point. Figure the cost of putting that up and give it a few more years of life out of 15. It should last several but you have the tubing to deal with.
