Rivet or weld?

I recently bought a new to me Grimm arch. There are some weak spot in the metal. I was going to weld new sections on but noticed that they were riveted before. Any pros or con's to one way or another?

It was riveted because it was galvanized sheet metal. If you are replacing with new non-galvanized, it is a matter of choice. Riveting will allow the metal to expand and contract better with temp changes.
