When you check sugar content with a hydrometer and tube / cup , does the temperature at the time matter? I home brew and temperature does affect the reading when checking beer wort.
I believe they are supposed to check sap at about 40 degrees.

Hydrometer works on density of liquids. Temperature changes the density of liquids. So in life size and temperature matter. LOL

My beer hydrometer is calibrated to +- 80 degrees F. I might see how it works on sap at that temp. I might also stop being so tight and buy a sap hydro….

Well if you are tight then don't buy a hydrometer. I bought a refractrometer like:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Portable-Refractometer-Tester-Bees-0-90-with-ATC-Brix-/281737170824?hash=item4198d80f88:g:LAIAAOSw9N1VkmS U
this save you some much time and $$$ you will not believe it.
I do prefer the hyrometer when drawing off for the speed and ability to dump the cup back in the evap when it is under %.
My sap refract paid for it self in the first day I used it from saving sugar from being discharged while rinsing the membranes.

That may be the way to go for me. I have tons to learn. I have no idea what rinsing membranes means. I may be ordering that one , thanks for the link.
