I have 300/350 taps 1000' from the sugar house, with elevations 5' to 75' below the sugar house. Would like to here what others think of putting a tank and releaser in the woods and pumping back over the hill or having the tank and releaser at the sugar house and get sap back with lifters or ladders?
thanks,
Richard

I have searched and read lots of posts, lots of different opinions. I guess a better question would be who has one of these situations in their bush, with in a couple hours of Burlington Vermont that would not mind me stopping by and looking it over?

That sounds like and excellent idea. There is a big difference between 5' and 75'.

Richard,
If you would like to come down and see my setup it is not a problem. I use ladders exclusively now. Very similar elevation change from our low point to the sugar house as you have mentioned. I think mine is actual 79'. We backed away from remote electric pump as it was a hassle due to power lines, frozen lines and pumps that didn't drain fully.
Our shortest ladder is 18" and the tallest individual ladder is 18'. to do the 79' takes 7 separate ladders.
Pumps and releaser and all the sap into the sugar house is an advantage that few can fault; but both setups have their advantages.
IMO it comes to availability of time and knowledge to maintain remote pumps and releasers and the structure to house and maintain these units in.
Please don't feel bad that you are asking a specific question about your operation...ever operation is different and the best way to get your specific question answered is to ask.

I think there is a guy in Highgate that uses alot of sap ladders. That should be pretty close to you.

Richard,
My bush is about 3 hours west of Swanton. I pump sap from 5000 taps for distances of up to a mile and a half. Also use some ladders. Would be happy to show you around and let you see my mistakes.
