OK, I am kinda newer to the maple business and don't really know much about reverse osmosis especially, yet. I'm working on building an oil tank evaporator and have been looking for supplies. I found a Whirlpool reverse osmosis under the counter filtration unit with a holding tank and three filters. I researched the product a little and it does say it only produces 25 gallons a day. I believe it is meant for kitchen sinks or something like that.

My question, will this work for maple sugaring? Is the 25 gallons a day a big problem, is there a way to override/boost that amount?

It's on a site for sale which I thought was a decent price, so just wondering if it would be a good grab for the maple production.

I'm no expert on those under-counter units, but a lot of small producers have built/modified them for maple use. Dial up Youtube.com and search reverse osmosis, or maple reverse osmosis- not sure which exactly. Maple expert Steve Childs from Cornell University has a video on building one of those small units.

My experience with ROs rated for purifying water is that you have to divide the gallons per day rating by 6 when you have sap against the membrane instead of water so a unit that claims 25 gallons a day or about 1 gallon of water removed per hour would only remove 4 gallons per day or just a few ounces per hour with sap. Search youtube with Cornell Reverse Osmosis for some ideas on small home built ROs.
