Anyone in Maine tapped yet?

We're thinking of tapping the big roadside trees today, then the rest in the woods next weekend.

Dave-

Not yet, might do some test ones today if I get the vacuum out there.

You should stop by sometime. I shouldn't be too far from you.

I was thinking of breaking in the trail today to find 30 more trees still cold and windy here.

80 buckets
and a 14 yr. old sap hauler

We started tapping this week-end .Today 2-25-07 the big roadside trees
started to run a little, we hit 42 degrees today , looks like this weeks temps will be close for a run, mainly roadside trees. Trees in the woods on pipe still
seem mighty cold. 800 taps so far, at least another 800 - 1000 to go.

I only drilled one at the end of my driveway, stuck a new prototype on it and got maybe a pint of sap. Sap was yellow too. I'm still working on getting vacuum set up and more tubing in the woods. I may try tapping this weekend. But still no major heat wave on the way for me.

Do you get your supplies from Wayne and Joni?

We tapped about 50 trees and added about 10 new taps on Sunday. We have only tapped those on tubing. So far only a tiny drip coming out. A few of the south faces were dripping when we tapped. I expected more when I checked today, but they are just starting. We'll probably get something going by next week I imagine. Isn't the weather supposed to be warmish? I sure would like to see a week of this weather to get things going!

Revi I'm with you better sap weather soon.

sap flows best before a rain and after snow, Ithink Ihave that right.

Tapped the big roadside trees on Sunday. Heard that delightful "ping.................ping....................." of sap dripping into the buckets.

And, most importantly, MaineMapleSamantha (age 7) was able to taste the first drips directly from the tree. That's family tradition now.

I like that, sap flows before a rain and after a snow. It flowed a bit this weekend, after the snow. I'm pretty sure it's going to freeze up this week. It'll flow next weekend, hopefully! We'll probably have enough to boil by then, but it'll be frozen. Oh well, you can't have everything!
