Debating building a flue pan
Wondering if the flue portion is bent all as one piece or if they are sections welded together? Also on a raised flue pan, is there a "header" only on one end of the pan or both?
Thanks

I have no experience in making pans but I did so one being built at a stainless steel shop by my place. Guy was making the flue part in the break. A lot of work. The way I saw it he had the left and right portions of the pan all one piece including the flues. And he bent up a back and front piece. So the pan is 3 pieces. The front piece was cut when I saw it. And I would assume he then tig welded it to cap off the flues. Would of.loved to watch the whole process.

I considered having one made as I suck at welding (found that out when I made my arch) .....plus it was not cost effective I was quoted $2K just to "try" to build one. So I went with a Smoky Lake 2X5 Hybrid.
However, here is the best thread I found that had great pic's and instructions, BigEddy is great...full of info:

and this is one on drop flues:

Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

big eddy did have a formula ,i don't believe you can find it any more. i worked it out and it didn't come close to what i had been getting on my evap. i think that there are so many variable with different evaps that you just need to know that you have to fill your pan and boil and have enough sap standing by. like cpmaple said, plan on at lest 2x more sap in your head tank or more.
