A few years ago, a 20,000 tap maple producer near here retired and sold his 1000 acres to a logging company. They produce wood chips for biomass I guess. They began the cutting about a month ago and you can see the top of the mountain is already bare. It breaks my heart, but I guess it's less competition!

That's A shame. I hate to see maples being cut.

In my area the price of sugar woods is on the rise. This is because the value of maple trees is high. There is competition between the logger and the sugar maker. I think this is a good thing for those of us that already own a sugar woods.
