Well guys, it's starting to come together. Hope to have the green metal roof on this weekend. Post and beam hemlock with pine siding. All rough cut and milled on site. 9ft walls and 8/12 pitch.

Congratulations on your project! I don't know if you have been boiling outdoors before or not but indoors and out of the elements is the only way to go. Keep us updated.

Looks great CTsap! I looks like you have a wooden floor. Is the floor on concrete pillers or something else? I'm gonna be starting my shack next summer and trying to get some ideas. My neighbor thinks I should build the shed on runners on top of leveled crushed limestone. Thats how my storage shed we got from the amish is, but I'm worried about going that route with frost heaving.

This will be my first time inside. Our previous set up was a turkey pot over an open flame. Excited to see what we can do with a better set up.
Lyford - nothing wrong with skids as long as you have a good gravel base with good drainqe. I built a 12 x 16 shed on skids and its doing fine. The spot I'm building on now is a steep slope and erosion was a concern and no concrete truck can get at it. Its on 9 piers down 45-50 inches, two are pinned on ledge. Three 8x8 skids. Full dimension hemlock joists 16 on center. A few joists are doubled up near cupola. I also overhang my joists about a foot over on the outside skids. 3/4 inch plywood on top.

I wanted to share my latest progress. Still have to do some trim and windows and doors but it's coming along!
Hope to have finished before sap flows

That looks real nice. You will really like being inside, out of the wind and whatever else mother nature can throw at you. It's nice that you got it to this point so you can work on finishing it even if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Looks really nice! Nice size. How bit is your evaporator? I like the fact you cut all your lumber on-site. I did the same but just for the framing lumber. I cheated beyond that and used plywood. Not quite as far along as you are but with luck I'll have the cupola on this coming weekend and the metal roof and the following week.

thanks guys.

I'm going to start out small with a 2x3 or a 2x4 evaporator. Down the road, if I find I have the time and energy to take on more, I will go bigger.

CTsap,
Sounds like you got off to a good start. That is what we made our first season too. Bet you enjoyed being inside out of the elements. Hope you enjoy making syrup as much as we do and that you continue enjoying it. Best of luck with your second season.
