How many years have any of you guys had this stuff in the woods before it starts to deteriorate?

I don't use it any more but make sure you get the black that has resistance to uv. I put some in, in 2000 and it is still hanging from some main lines and still good. Bought some yellow one time and only lasted a couple of seasons. Now there are better options you might want to explore.

Yes, the yellow does not last very long when exposed to sun. I have some in my woods and it gets brittle and loses its grip. If you do use it be sure to have at least 16" covering the lateral for good grip as it will loosen up.

New to tubing in '16. What are better options?

I had durability problems with yellow and green. It just deteriorates and finally tears.
A better option is a hooked connector hooked onto a wire loop around the anchor tree. Protect the tree with a length of old lateral line around the wire.

End line fork or sometimes called a "Y" fork works good too if you don't want to use hooked connector. I have a lot of larger wire that has been up for years that hooked connector won't work on. I either use hollow core rope or a fork.

I really like being able to tension my laterals at the last tree with the hollow core rope.
Tried several brands of the yellow/orange stuff from places like tractor supply, agway, hardware stores.
That stuff can slip and "rots" in a couple of years as noted by others above.

I now only use the black hollow core braded rope sold by Basom's. It isn't any more expensive, doesn't seem to slip, and seems to hold up better over time.
I've started using it on the new 3/16th tubing, seems to hold on that size tubing too.
