Hi
We bottle only in glass, purchased through Burch. Screw top (Marasca, flasks, nips) and wire bale tops.
Sometimes, maybe once every few cases w/ screw tops, I'll have a cap pop and I have to re tighten.
We bottle at 185-190 and fill to the brim, cap them, flip upside down for a minute, and so on....
Thoughts as to what's going on certainly appreciated...am I filling too high perhaps?

We fill to the bottom of the threads only and never have a problem. I was always told to leave that small air space and since we have never had a problem, we will continue to do that.

What is the reason for the caps to pop off?
You can sometimes actually hear the POP! sound then just a loose cap sitting on top of the bottle....

Only thing I can think of is maybe you over tightened them slightly. I have had a few slip the threads on me when they get hot. If you fill to the very top of the bottle like I tend to do your getting those plastic caps really hot. Pretty easy to over tighten a hot cap. If you're using metal caps then this may not be a problem.

I also use Marasca bottles and I fill to the top but have never had a cap pop. I tend to agree that perhaps you are over tightening.

We have found that you need to quickly tighten the caps to their final torque while the threads (and caps) are still cold. If we try to tighten after the glass or the plastic lid is hot, they can strip.

Isn't glass hot though from the syrup? I put my tops on immediately upon filling....
