I am trying to replace the old filter screen on a 12 X 20 grimm canner. I re-melted the solder and removed the old screen-

is there a way to clean up/ remove the old solder? heat? elbow grease? chemicals?

The filter rack is stainless but the old screen was galvanized and there is a combination of rust and re-melted solder on the lip of the filter rack.
any advice appreciated...

My friend is a plumber and he heats the solder up and wipes it off with a rag. If he is going to resolder in the same spot he will sand it with a piece of light sand paper.

I do a fare amount of plumbing and Maplehound is right, just use a clean
rag to wipe with. Adding some flux to the rag may also help clean things up.
