Hey folks,
Getting back into syrup this year with my brother and best friend. Made it as a kid growing up and worked for a large operation since then but doing it on our own. We're tapping about 800 with 700 or so of that on 3/16ths line. Was curious how much wood do you think we would need for a season?

800 taps x .25 per tap = 200 gal
200 gal / 15 to 20 gal syrup per cord = 10 to 13 cord traditional no ro or fancy arch.

I was planning on about 15 to 18 just because of some of the results from the 3/16ths line. My land had a steep slope and is an ideal set up for it. Hoping it produces large amounts of sap

I ran a couple lines of 3/16ths last season and it was much more productive than my 5/16ths lines. I'm a small operation but I still saw about a 40% increase in sap from those lines. Good luck!

Thanks pete! We're up in western New York and it's a virgin woods all mature trees about 10-14 inches in diameter and larger. Well see after the first run if we have enough wood haha

hey dbeitz welcome back, as for wood just keep making it. I know I'm way behind in my wood supply for this time in the year, and would take all your surplus. Are you the new shanty going up on rt.98? I'm up over the hill on maxon.

Hey Sudzy,
Yeah we're building down on rt 98 right before the bridge going over the Tonawanda creek. I'm friends with your nephew Ryan. But yeah I know if worst comes to worst I cab sell my excess sap to boxlers or whomever wants it. We have about 14 cord cut and stacked now with two more big trees to get out and that'll be it for wood. Once we start building the shanty I know all our efforts will be getting the arch in and tanks put up and line strung. Then before you know it it will be time to tap.
