Bought a used flue pan at auction... Now what?

So I paid $25 for a very used flue pan at an Amish auction. It definitely has some rust/corrosion, but no leaks.
I would love some advice on cleaning it and getting it ready. Or if I just wasted $25...
This will be my first year boiling, I plan to build a block arch.

Fill it up w I think water and leave jt out in the sun f ok r a month or so, then scrub it up. It works good for me every year.

What is the pan made of, you mentioned rust??

I'm not sure what it's made of. I was told it couldn't be welded. It's very heavy!
