If you can believe it, 75 gallons of syrup is stopping traffic in NH. I wonder if they brought in the haz. mat. crew.

25 years ago we lost a 15 gallon jug of molasses off truck and it did turn into the hazmat crew. Molasses' sugar will tie up the oxygen in water and kill fish.

They end up washing off the road with a fire truck and laughing about it. I found out by reading the local paper and the Headline was Mystery Goo!

"The truck was blocking one lane of traffic entering the circle from the direction of Route 9, while officials attempted to sop up the syrup with an absorbent material."

An uninformed reader would assume pancakes were used, but actually french toast is much more effective in these situations.

Just give them a little time and bees, humming birds and such will do the job well. A quicker method from spills I've had in my sugarhouse is to just wet a towel and spread it (or in this case a bunch of them) on the spill, it will work wonderfully.
If the shipment was leaving Alstead it may well have been from Bascom.

In my Local Paper this morning it said 220 gallons we're spilled, by Friday it will be A whole Tanker load.seriously though what a sticky slippery mess that would be.

I thought it was a bit ridiculous myself and wondered why they didn't just call the local FD and have them hose the road down.

It was all Vermont syrup. Load not secured properly. The trucking companies ins. will cover the loss and clean up.
