Maple keys

Due to the bad ice storm we had in December of 2013 (my theory anyway), and the related damage to so many trees, my Silver Maples had few if any keys in the spring of 2014.

This year, they're making up for it in spades. It's been raining keys like mad for the last several days.

by "keys" I assume you mean seeds? Silver and red maples have spring seed drops...

our red maples are producing more seeds this spring than i have ever seen...

Same with mine.
The tops of the trees look dead they are so brown with seeds!

Yeah, I've got some serious seed droppage here. The squirrels and chipmunks are now so fat they can barely move.

The trees just had to put their energy into repair, now the next step is to spread their seed. This is natural in most plants, they rebuild then multiply.
