I was just curious for those who buy sap how much you pay per gallon? I have way to many taps this year 8O , ( i couldnt pass them up), the sugar house up the road from me is willing to buy the sap from me, so I was just curious to see what the going rate is.

Up here in Vermont they have people in the paper offering 25 cents a gallon. I've heard better prices and some of the buyers will pay more for higher sugar content sap.
That's about all I know about that. :D

.25 a gallon? thats $10 for a gal of syrup... kinda knocks the profit down a bit.... oh wait we don't make a profit anyway

There is a very nice guide in the Feb 2004 Maple Syrup Digest that should be very helpful. If you don't have it, I may try to scan a copy on Sunday and post it here or on my website.

A friend of mine here in southern Maine buys sap and pays 10 cents a gallon , the same price for several years. If he had to pay 25 cents , I don't believe he'd buy it.

Maple Syrup Digest Reports the following for Syrup in the Northeast delivered to the Sugar House.
.8 .10
1 .14
1.5 .24
2 .33
2.5 .42
3 .50
4. .66

And if you have a large quantity of 4.0 trees I would like to see that!

Does the rule of 86 help at all ? 50 % buyer 50 % seller is what I pay 2 % sap is about 24.8 cents a gallon. The higher the sugar the higher the price . Of coarse that's delivered to the sugar house. Pay them what its worth or somebody else will !
They have incurred expenses also tubing , vac system , check valves ,etc. You wouldn't want somebody giving you $ 20.00 a gallon for your syrup would you?

This price represents the bulk rate of syrup. Lots of things to consider also for example if its late in the season and your making B grade syrup @ $ 2.00 a pound that's what the 24.8 cents a pound is for. Early season and fancy syrup at 2.80 a pound then about 34.5 cents a pound.

Frank: I pay roughly 43.1 cents a gallon if we are making fancy syrup . If we are making medium and the bulk price per pound is 2.50 I pay38.5 cents a gallon.
