Am I missing something?? Seen two new installations with the bigger pipe on the bottom and the small on top. Is this something new, or am I behind times???

If you are wrong, I must be too. My larger conductor is on the top, that's for vacuum transfer (but it does carry sap if the wet line is frozen or during a super flow period, at times).

Depends on the length or your wet and dry lines...on mine my main wet and dry lines are about 650' long..each of my side lines are 1000-1300'...my dry line is 11/4" and my wet line is 11/2" on a total of about 3200 taps in that bush...was a little dubious when leader recommended it that way...however, of my 4 sugar bushes this one was by far my most productive...I had 28-29" at the releaser and 27-28 at the last taps...

Surprise, Leader recommended mine, which is 1600' long to be 1.5" over 1.25. However, I only have 1 run at 1" which is 1250' long, the others (all 1" too) run anywhere from 870' to 480' in length. I wonder if the lengths of the mains somehow changes the placement of the larger conductor?

so there is a reason for this, but i'm not getting it.

The length of your wet and dry lines dictate what diameter they need to be...in my case at about 650' all I needed was a 11/4" vacuum line...with approx 3200 taps in that bush I needed a 11/2" wet line to handle the volume of sap and still have some room for vac transfer

It is the first I have ever heard of this. Is there a chart or something to reference for this? Any publication or book that I have ever read never mentioned anything about the longer a run would change the pipe size. I guess I see your point with the 3200 taps, but I would think you'd need a 2" dry to be sufficient since your 1 1/4" would be maxed out wet?

Not sure about a chart but my info came straight from Dave at leader when he came and walked my sugar bush
