The wind blew so hard yesterday (40mph)that it kept our windmills going like crazy. No sap. Last night we hit 29°. Got both wood stoves going. The snow is still around in the woods and hedge rows. About 50 gallons of sap to boil today. Hope we get a last run. Terrible year. Glad we have the little Mason and not our big CDL anymore. We wouldn't have had enough sap to ever get it going. Good luck to those still trying!

Was it a terrible year? I'm not too far from you. This was my first year on an actual evaporator so I didn't know exactly what to expect. To me it seemed like a good year, made a lot more syrup than I thought I would. I was thinking of maybe doubling my taps, but if this was considered a bad year, I double next year, and it's a good year..I may be over my head I guess.

Our woods run real cold. Trees were frozen. Pumps been going since about 10 am. Ron's been boiling non-stop. Will see what rest of week brings. We've had enough for some orders and the rest will be bulk. What kind of evaporator do you have? Sap still running at 5 p.m.
I finished up tonight. Made very dark syrup. Pretty sure that will be it for me. Really warm days coming up.

Well we're done here. Was 73° on Monday. Trees budding. Actually walked around the yard for the first time. Ended up with about 30 gallons of dark. Syrup tastes great. Just our woods were so frozen. Never got any good runs except for one day. Otherwise just trickles. Happy with performance of the Mason. Cleaning up and waiting for next weekend to sell bulk syrup. See you all next time around.
