As we near our final boil of season has anyone tried to add water to the boiler to " push" the last bit of syrup from front pans ? Would the water mix and dilute the syrup or would it act the same way sap would ?

It will help to push out the sugar, but you won't get it all. Run what is left into a finishing rig and boil it down that way. Or, shut down, drain everything from your rear pans, put it all in the front, fill the rear and your supply tank with water. Boil until the front pan is close, shut down, drain and finish on a finishing rig/stove.
