View Full Version : Making syrup on shares

We made an arrangement with friends to take their sap and boil it to syrup.

The "deal was": You bring sap, and we'll make the syrup, and work on 50/50,...............canned/bottled.

The 50/50 STOPS at 6 gallons and we then KEEP the rest above that.

It sounded just OK, but when all said and done, maybe it's a good deal.(?)

In years past they would take sap [elsewhere] and get a 50/50 split for as much as they brought bottled in fancy bottles.

Is this the "standard" arrangement for this? They are good friends, and right now we didn't exceed the 50/50 by much.

Sincerely appreciate thoughts and what you may do.

Thanks!

There are a number of people around here that do a 50/50 deal. I collect sap from a friends 15 taps and will give him 1/2 gallon. I supply the taps and do most of the collections.

I take sap from 2 neighbors-one has 450 and the other 750 or more. Last year I gave them 1/2 back, filtered, and in bulk. This year, one wants $$ so I will pay $.15 per gallon, per point. This is a pretty standard cut around here.
