I have 2 batches of syrup (12 pints and 7 pints) with sediment in the bottom of the jars. They were run through a cone filter with a pre filter. Can I pour off the clear syrup and re bottle it without running it through the filtering process again? What do I do with the nasty stuff at the bottom? Is it worth filtering or should it just be thrown out?
By the way my first 2 batches came out clean as a whistle.

" Can I pour off the clear syrup and re bottle it without running it through the filtering process again?" That's what I would do if I were you. If you really want to make sure you don't get more sediment you could skip the reheating and just freeze it.
I would pour off the clear syrup in each container until just before the sediment is going to start. Then I'd dump the sediment into a container big enough to hold the sediment from all the containers. I'd let that sit for a week or two and pour the clear syrup off the top, then I'd chuck the dregs.

I understand Your concern about niter or sugar sand if You are gifting or selling the maple syrup. We all want are product to look nice. However - If it is for Your own use and You already have it in sealed jars - just leave it as is. When You go to use a jar - just decant it off into another container leaving the niter behind. Rinse out the jar with the niter in it - as it is waste. I treat niter or sugar sand like sediment in a bottle of wine - no big deal - just decant when You use and dump the waste.
