Thinking of next year putting a auto feed into my warming tray using a toilet tank valve and float. anyone ever use this? or would it not be "food grade".

Look at a Blichmann autosparge. I think this would work nice.

One of the problems with trying to use a toilet float system is it needs so much liquid to actually float ie you would need a float box the size of a toilet tank hanging off the sided of pan look around on here for homemade float you should find quite a few designs, I made mine out of a stock tank valve and a small whiskey flask works great only requires about one inch of sap to shut off flow

Go into your local plumbing supply store and ask for a food grade toilet float. Make sure to video his response and share with the rest of us!

We use a brand new toilet float attached to the end of a wood dowel as a tank level indicator in our concentrate tank. We sterilized it before using even though it was new. We've also used float switches to pump sap from one tank to another and they are basically the same as a toilet float but with a contact inside.

As always thanks for all you comments and suggestions! Now I have ten months to figure it out. Still running strong and clear here in Orange County NY

I used a brass float and 1/2" brass valve from McMaster Carr for several years in my preheater. Works like a champ.
