Today is maybe 1-2 degrees above freezing, a bit of sun at times, overcast with some clouds and some wind. Not what I call a good sap day. I don't even know if my trees are dripping today or not (never even checked).

I am wondering if it is worth running the Shurflo pump today or should I be waiting for better weather?

What I am afraid of is someone telling me that its days like today that the Shurflo does best and should be running !!!

I would think if I had buckets hung the drips would be minimum, maybe the pump should be running ???

If sap isn't running good then don't run the Shurflo right ???

Help, I am getting desperate for sap.

Thanks.

Terry

Go! Go! Go! If your tubing isn't frozen, then you can get your trees running around freezing temps with vac, especially with sun-side taps. Once going, sap doesn't freeze until a couple degrees below zero. My practice is on at +1C and off at -2.5C (with inlet strainer for ice). Please, let us know what happens...

I too have my sensor turn on there too. Even with half frozen lines the vacuum will suck the sap through and help melt the lines and taps. My bags didn't do good this weekend but my two shuflos where pulling sap. MAKE SURE YOU USE ICE STRAINER

You are both right, sap got sucked by the Shurflo, best day yet for pulling sap this year.

Not much sap from 50 taps, maybe 12-15 gallons but that is the most sap in a single day this season. I will now start my pump once I see my lines with fluid in them, not when frozen with ice with no liquid sap.

Trees are about to let loose up north here and it feels good that I may get busy.

Thanks guys.

Left pump on last night here in New Hampshire. Got 32 gallons on 33 red from about 9 last night until 9 tonight. Use the strainer and keep the pump on.
