1 Micron filters

I have been using 1 micron string wound filters in my ro. Will the smooth 1 micron filters work ?

Most use a 5 micron polyspun filter.

I bought a DuPont 10" filter housing that came with a 1 micron filter. I put in the RO and ruined 2 pumps. The filter had actually collapsed. I did have a cloth diaper on the outside of filter so that didn't help.

Yes use 5 micron. 1 micron is too small and you have more of a chance of damaging your pump than protecting the membrane. The membrane can be washed and caustic cleaned.
