almost black syrup?

First time boiling with a evaporator its a 18"-6 drip flue sweeting pan ran 375 gal 2% sap good clear fresh sap have drawn 4gal syrup off but its really dark almost black taste fine any thought?

Sounds like you just made some good tasting dark syrup. Enjoy!
Color can be darker due to several things.
-very slow boil rate.
-reboiling as in a single pot,
-age of sap /quality of sap
-Late season sap.
-equipment/storage conditions for sap
