Basically it's a $7 immersion water heater. I have it sitting in a aluminum kettle thing I had around the house. My feed line drips into it and gets heated by the immersion coil and then the kettle overflows into the evaporator at almost boiling. 200 W

It is however an electric appliance very close to a lot of heat and water. I have mine held up by heavy gauge wire from the ceiling of the shack. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/20/76018673bc085105d72a907db676c93c.jpgBut it works!

Keep in mind that the faster the flow rate the lower the temp. So this would not work for much more than a very very fine stream.

For the cost in electric you are spending to preheat... are you gaining anything?

Good question. I suppose its mostly novelty. I actually do wonder how much it actually helps. Not much is my guess.

When we boiled our own a few years ago in a flat pan we just used about 10ft of 3/16 copper tubing coiled around over the pan. Sap came out at a trickle and hit the pan at about 170 or so better than nothing and it cost nothing to run.

its only 200 watts. it doesnt take any more electric than the lights being on i bet. notice a difference in evaporation rate?
