retap or replace

I did not have enough taps on hand the other day and wanted to see if they sap was running in different trees.I stole a few taps from different tress. I have since acquired taps, question is, do i replace in the same hole or retap the tree all together. Thanks

Put the tap in the same hole. It is early enough in the season so that the hole shouldn't have closed up yet.

I agree. I had one tap hole I drilled and saw some brown shavings. Figured it wouldn't run much so I didn't put a spile in. It wound up running great. About five days later I put a spile in and it's one of my better trees.
