Not quite enough

Sap ran a bit today for me, but not enough to boil! My swamp - reds are still thawing out I guess, perhaps tomorrow will be better, I'm itching to boil.

52 taps in, got 8 gals yesterday and only 4 more today. Some taps are producing well, others not a drop. Keep the faith.....

I checked today - out of 20 taps only about 1 gallon. I'm new and getting worried that I missed something. All are big reds of 24" or more. Maybe they just haven't started?

Checked a run with 25 taps 0000000 hope I don't have a leak will check Wednesday but the others were 00000 can't believe but will wait I guess we have no choice???

Not much for me today on my 14 taps. Had a small run yesterday and day before, and collected about 8 gal of sap, which I boiled down on my NG outfitted burner and steam pan and got close to qt of syrup.

Good to see and taste the first batch, but concerned that night time temps look high for the next couple of nights.

Let's hope for the best.

Checking in to see how things are gong down there. My Dad and Brother live on Swartzwood lake and its been such a cold winter, don't worry it will come. They both did good last year and both have added on taps for this year. probably 20-30 between the 2 of them. Even up here in NH we are just waiting on sap!!! Reds on Vacuum are running but not on buckets even sugars on bucket aren't doing good yet. Good luck guys I will be checking in from time to time.

Not sure how it was down there, but we had really cold temps before we got snow so there was pretty deep frost in the ground then the snow just insulated it so I am guess it will need a little more time before it will really run hard!!!

Yeah but things are normally done 4/1 peepers r out then trees budding will see if it comes later this year,we know the sap is!

Checked the tanks yesterday. Only 130 gals total so far. It's funny how one bucket tree produced 4 gals since Sunday while another 20 feet away only produced a pint. Hoping to have enough on Sunday to atleast sweeten the pans.:)

We did have frost here before the snow came and insulated the frozen ground, I guess like up North. Funny thing is, different from other years, I haven't even seen sapsuckers out yet poking holes in trees. Armageddon?

I've boiled through 160gals this season, my sap and a friends. pans should be sweetend or close to it. Next boil should have some syrup. I did not test my sap, last year it was 1.2 - 1.8. A friend of mine brought me a few gallons today his was 1.7 on all sugar maples. It is what it is just glad to be boiling, hope it comes in a heap!

I only had 15 gals yesterday and 15 today. I boiled it down just to keep the stuff in the evaporator from spoiling in the flue pan, figured I'd kill anything in it, been sittn a few days, not sure if it would spoil, but I don't want it to….grrrrrrrrrr

Well, seeing the results the veterans are having, at least I know I didn't do something wrong as a newbie. I haven't seen a drop down here in over a week and the buds are about to pop. So I guess my first season was a learning experience. I only wish I got to use some of my syrup as my kids tore through it before I had the chance. As I have learned with plenty of other hobbies, mother nature has her own way of doing things.

5050, how much syrup have you managed to make so far this year? It sure seems to have been a trying year for lots of Maple Traders. It's anybody's guess as to what's going to happen up here.

Its not you Cape its a bust so far in north jersey as well. Iboiled 125 gallons so far which on a normal year is 1 to 2 days worth. Keep at it though

Made just over a gallon!!! Only boiled once!!!glade the shipping got messed up or I would of run some new 3/16 tubing I ordered just to clean it??

That's unreal. :confused: I'm crossing my fingers for you 5050. One gallon isn't nearly enough to see you through until 2016.

Today it finally looks like it is beginning here. Over the last several weeks I only collected 16 gals. Today I got 14 or 15 alone. Looks like a good night, its 28 degrees here now, tomorrow is supposed to be full sun and 44 degrees. Keep all fingers crossed. Good luck to all

Got a little sap yesterday and was able to bottle up 2 gallons last night. Froze up again today and snowing! Hopefully it'll run here for us this weekend, 50 tomorrow, and next week looks pretty good but not great. We'll see, funky season....

Left Wednesday to go snowmobiling upstate NY must of been good luck left buckets n drums empty home today n most full drums on tubing overflowing ?? Boiling Saturday !! Mabe the 7" of snow had something to do with it just what we need to make MAPLE SNOWCONES !!! Hope everyone does it AWESOME!!!

just got done boiling 75 gals. will see in the morning what i come out with after i finish, lost about a pint on the floor pulling off the pan and draining. the end is allways the worst part trying to get the pan off.

Sap is flowing like wine today. Almost 1 gal of syrup made so far this year out 14 taps.

Not fantastic, but seems like a strong finish to the season. Hopefully continues into next week.

i also had a good run today 43 gals out of 53 taps best run of the year so far and there still running tonight. boiling tomorrow.
