View Full Version : How long for guzzler to create vacuum on 1500 feet

I have a guzzler on about 80 taps. One 5 foot ladder (about 700 feet in) and about 1500 feet of total mainline. Any guess how long it would take to clear the lines of air and create the vacuum throughout the system? Today we had used an battery that was not charged up enough and it only ran a couple of hours but in that time it did not clear the sap from the laterals and we ended up with nothing in the collection tank. I can see the bubbles/sap pulsing bac and forth with the pump action but I am curious if we have a design flaw in the system, the sap just didn't run well today, or if the battery died before enough vacuum could be created. Thanks,
-Dave

How big is your main line? I have 1000 ft of 1 inch and 450 taps on 5/16 lats and it takes my Guzzler about 10 min. to get vacuum.

Good to know, I also have a 1 inch mainline. I will pull a tap at the end and feel if there is suction tomorrow. I will also try to pick up a vacuum gauge as well so I am not guessing, thanks,

You said you have a ladder. I dont know if a Guzzler can have enough vacuum for a ladder.

First thing you should do is buy that vac gauge, plumb it in at the pump, and then you can keep an eye on the vac, you will prob spend most of your time watching that darn gauge!! lol
