I am planning on construction of a new building to boil out of. I have a 14' diameter corn crib that I dismantled last year. Am planning on using that. My question is do you think 14' diameter is big enough for a 2x6 evaporator? I could go with a conventional built building but want something different. I am in the building and remodeling trade so construction shouldn't be a problem. Just wonder about the size. Also going to side it with board and batton. Has anyone out there done this? Thanks

If making it 14' round, certainly do able but would be tight. Maybe you want to use the foundation to start and lift a square or rectangular structure with a little more space. Maybe lift it a 1 or 2 and then make a 16 or 18' wide by 20 or 24' long sugarhouse, all supported by the 14' round pad. A silo pad if in good condition is a great foundation, just consider, it used to support a round tall structure without leaning like the leaning Tower Of Pisa.

Actually the crib was removed from a different farm so I would be starting from scratch with the foundation. I could either build it pole frame style or......... actually pole frame would be the easiest. I am at 70 taps this year and will expand with a new evaporator next year planning on tapping around 100 next year.

Great idea... try to figure a way to keep the corn crib appearance.
That will look so cool with the steam going out the fill port.
Size wise you should be ok but close. I would keep it to on side and angle the stack to the center. You can make a second floor for your feeder tank and you pump with releaser below.
Don't forget to post some pics as it comes along.

I have no experience to tell you whether the 14' round is sufficient, but I do like the idea if using the crib. Consider and extension coming out one side, let's say 8'.
Sort of a lollipop/ mushroom look. The evaporator would be in that rectangle extension and the round gives you your work space.
that would certainly be different!
