Thats interesting! I guess if you only have a handfull of taps it would be okay.
My original homemade 2.5x6 had the flue pan higher than the syrup pan. Before i decided to build a preheater for it, I was going to fabricate another "step" for it for a warming/preheat flat pan.

That's pretty neat, not a bad idea for a small operation like mine! I really like his firebox concept.

Since the craig's list ad will eventually go away, here's the photos and text from the first ad mentioned:
this is a small maple evaporator that I built in my fab shop a few years ago.
This unit will boil up to 5 gallons per hour
The design allows you to draw off as you make syrup instead of many of the hobby evaporators method which is to do it as a "batch"
It can be easily wheeled in and out of a shed or garage for storage.
I believe I also have a stack with a preheater coil in it
includes a 110v blower
I believe this little unit will outperform a half pint evaporator
