Tapping trees with porcupine damage

Should I avoid tapping trees that have been recently damaged by porcupines? I'm thinking i should wait a year or two for them to recover, but was curious if any others had any input.

Porcupine problem has been taken care of, but it did quite a bit of damage before it became coyote bait.
