So it looks like I left my bucket of spouts under a pile of snow and cannot find them. Anybody know a source for 7/16 bucket spouts with in an hour of Rowley, MA? I really want to tap some trees today.

I'm going to order some today for later this week, but, would like some today.

no, but this might be a real good time to move into the 21st century. Get some 5/16 taps.

Thanks, Nathan. New ones on order from Bascom should be here tomorrow.

If I wanted to join the 21st century I'd order genetically engineered maple syrup from Amazon and have it delivered by drone;)

In all honesty is there a good reason to go 5/16" instead? I've always used the 7/16" and never had a reason to change.

yes, a 5/16 leaves a smaller wound, heals sooner and is thus better for the tree's health.

Can you get 5/16 bucket saps made out of metal? I don't trust plastic and try never to use it. I'm old fashioned like that. Don't use plastic frames for my bees either. I wouldn't mind switching my old metal bucket spouts if 5/16 works better.

There are 5/16 metal spouts available. New plastic each year introduces less bacteria into the tree and the tree will give you more sap.

Tractor Supply has taps, buckets, sap bags, and filters. Probably one near you.

That said, I use 5/16 too, boil them, and new tubing every year, but I only do six holes.

Essex County Coop usually has the metal spiles

There are 5/16 stainless taps available. If you really want to avoid plastic, that is the way I would probably go.

We switched to these 5/16 SS taps for this year. We got them from Andersons for $1.60 each.

I checked out Tractor Supply and they told me they don't have sugaring supplies, but all the other stores do. I like Essex County Co-op and get most of my chicken feed there, but, they have a few sugaring items which they appear to sell as novelties. The spouts I saw there last year were price from $5-8 each. Ain't nobody got $$$ for $8 spouts.

Mine should be here today or tomorrow. I'm waiting impatiently.

Whyn't you just order from The Maple Guys? They're .35-.40 apiece.
