What are people using for the part that expands the tubing for ease of installing a fitting? I built a two handed tool and would like to install one of these.
Thanks.

I have not used that part for years. My homemade tool had a piece of probably 3/8" round stock that was pointed on both ends. Total length a little over an inch. Helped with older tubing many years ago. I don't find a need for it with modern tubing. I took that part off my homemade tool.

The tool I built is for 3/16. When the tubing is warm it's not needed but when it's cold it would help to have.

This is the first year in about 20 years that I'll be tapping but I remember taking a thermos of hot water along while tapping. We would dip those hose in then slip the tap or other fitting on. Maybe this will help you?? Not the most efficient method but it works.

Used #5 vise grips. 3/4 inch wide flat stock a little thicker then 1/8 inch. Haybine knife rivets for the pivots. 3/8 coupling nuts for the clamps.
Sorry about the side ways pics.
