I've seen a number of pics of homemade tubing tools for 5/16" lines, they appear to all use hex standoffs cut (or ground) in half lengthwise. What size standoffs do you start with? And where's a good place to find them?

Thanks,

Gary

search - tubing tool problem- they discussed the sizes to use there

Thanks, I had looked at quite a few threads, but missed the one that talked about the size of the rod coupling nuts.

Looks like 1/2-13 for 5/16 tubing and 3/8-16 for 3/16 tubing.

Thanks,

Gary

You can buy the coupling nuts at most hardware stores where they have the threaded rod.

My local Ace Hardware wants $ 7.49 for 2 of them. Figured since I'd screw up a few, so I ordered an 8 pack from Grainger's for the same price. Very seldom is Grainger cheaper on anything.

Thanks,

Gary

TSC, Lowes and Home Depot are all much cheaper than $7.49/2. Likely others too.

I followed the design of Maplekid...I think, I can't find the original thread now, when I built mine (last week, I might add).

I used two 1/2 - 13 threaded rod couplings that were 1 3/4" long. Found them at the local hardware store for around a buck or so.
