ive read alot about bacteria being a big concern with sap flow. a copper spout would probably not be good for the tree, but what about a small piece of copper in the tip of the spout to kill bacteria in the tap hole? or a short piece of copper tubing pressed in the ID of the spout? maybe i should have filed a patent pending before asking? it seems like a good idea as long as it isnt in direct contact with the tree.

I only use the seasonal taps. No need to worry about bacteria and at 0.17 cents a tap, it's much cheaper than the metal spouts.
